Rum’un goes live

I made a mascot.

Tasmania’s AFL team doesn’t exist yet, but Rum’un the Tassie Devil does, and went live today.

More than 400 hours of handwork. Thousands of strips of fur, made from donated old school uniforms from around the state. Input from the local wildlife sanctuary Bonorong on the unique physiology of the species, and the threats to their survival. An epic origin story written by palawa playwright Nathan Maynard. Ideas from junior players on training grounds, who said it had to be kickass and had to have a tat. You can read more about the process in the sports pages here.

It’s been a unique collaboration between Terrapin and the Tasmania Football Club, and I hope we’ve done the fervour of their 210,000 members justice.
